Hello, my name is Christy Peterson (she/her/hers), and I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. I recently earned my Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Touro University Worldwide, building on a foundation of a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Vocal Performance from Westminster University and the University of California, Santa Barbara. My 10+ years of classical music training shaped my understanding of self-expression, artistry, and body awareness. I bring this perspective into therapy by helping clients connect deeply with their inner desires and develop the confidence to express their authentic voice in the world.
I believe safety and trust are the cornerstones of the therapeutic relationship. Together, we will explore your human experience with curiosity and compassion, whether healing past wounds or setting a path toward future goals. I consider myself a compassionate, honest, and empathetic partner in your journey, always respecting the unique perspective you bring to the room.
I work with adolescents ages 14+, adults, couples, and families who are navigating life transitions, anxiety, depression, grief, faith transitions, self-esteem related challenges, relationship challenges, and systemic family dynamics. Life transitions encompass pivotal moments that bring change, growth, or challenge, such as entering adulthood, starting or ending a relationship, navigating divorce or remarriage, blending families, becoming a parent, coping with infertility, adjusting to an empty nest, managing career shifts, or facing retirement. I support couples in navigating premarital preparation, building a strong foundation for partnership, and working through complex issues such as infidelity, infertility, betrayal, and shared grief and loss. I also support individuals in processing past or present traumas, including; sexual abuse PTSD, and domestic violence.
My approach to therapy is integrative and trauma informed, rooted in Internal Family Systems and influenced by narrative and nervous system based frameworks. I help clients understand how beliefs, emotional patterns, and protective responses developed in relation to their experiences. In relationship work, I integrate Gottman therapy and parts based approaches, including IFIO, with a focus on communication, boundaries, autonomy, and repair.
I am committed to creating an inclusive, affirming space for all individuals. I am also a strong advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community. I approach therapy as a humble explorer, recognizing the diverse and intersecting identities that shape each client’s experience.
As an associate therapist, I am under clinical supervision and actively pursuing advanced training, including Gottman Relationship Therapy (Level 1 & 2, Trauma, Affairs, and Addiction Recovery) and IFS certification. I believe in lifelong learning and strive to remain a student of the world, continuously expanding my knowledge to bring clients the highest quality of care.
Although I am a Utah native, I spent much of the last decade living in Southern California and Germany as part of a military family. I am happy to have returned to the mountains and natural beauty of Salt Lake City, where I now live with my husband, our beautiful baby daughter, and two long-haired dachshunds.
When I’m not working, you’ll find me cooking plant-based meals, exploring personal development, and indulging in all things self-care.
I deeply value the courage it takes to begin or continue therapy. My hope for you is that our work together provides a space of safety, empowerment, and self-discovery. I am here to support you in healing old wounds, uncovering new possibilities, and moving forward with confidence and clarity. You deserve a life that inspires and fulfills you, and I am honored to walk with you on this path.
