Finding a therapist who feels like the right fit can be difficult. Finding a therapist who can provide therapy directly in American Sign Language (ASL) can narrow those options even further.
At Green Willow Counseling, Marcie Johnson, CSW, provides therapy in American Sign Language for adolescents and adults. She is knowledgeable about Deaf culture and offers a warm, collaborative approach to mental health care.
Marcie sees clients in person at our Murray, Utah office and also offers telehealth appointments.
If you are searching for an ASL therapist in Utah, an ASL therapist near Salt Lake City, or mental health counseling that can be provided in American Sign Language, Marcie is currently accepting new clients.
Why Language Matters in Therapy
Therapy involves more than simply communicating information. It involves emotions, relationships, identity, nuance, and the ability to express experiences that may already be difficult to put into words.
For people who communicate primarily or comfortably in American Sign Language, being able to work directly with a therapist in ASL can create a different therapy experience.
Marcie is knowledgeable about Deaf culture and can provide therapy services in ASL. Her goal is to create an environment where clients feel supported in showing up authentically and sharing their individual experiences.
Rather than assuming that every client needs the same thing from therapy, Marcie approaches counseling as a collaborative relationship.
ASL Therapy for Teens and Adults
Marcie works with both adolescents ages 11 and older and adults.
Her areas of focus include:
Anxiety
Depression
Trauma
Family conflict
Eating disorders
Self-harm
Identity exploration
LGBTQIA+ concerns
Suicidal ideation
Life and relationship challenges
For parents searching for an ASL therapist for a teen in Utah, Marcie's combination of adolescent-focused therapy and ability to provide services in ASL can be especially valuable.
She also works with adults across a range of mental health concerns and life experiences.
An Affirming and Collaborative Approach
Marcie believes that therapy works best as a partnership.
Her therapeutic style prioritizes connection and the relationship between therapist and client. She aims to be genuine and authentic in sessions while creating an environment where clients can bring their own stories, identities, and lived experiences into the room.
Marcie also strives to provide an affirming and inclusive environment for LGBTQIA+ clients and people exploring their identities.
Her therapeutic approach draws from several evidence-based methods, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing.
The specific approach can vary depending on the person. The goal is to work together to navigate challenges, build resilience, and move toward greater connection and fulfillment.
